Please note that before administering anti-wrinkle injections patients will undergo a consultation which will include a discussion regarding your aesthetic concerns and goals as well as a full review of your medical history.
How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
After injection into the muscle, the product suffuses the nerve terminal and binds thus preventing the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. Without acetylcholine, muscle activity stops. This focal, or site-specific, paralysis is what smooths wrinkles and stops spasms. In other words, anti-wrinkle injections work by “paralyzing” the wrinkles away.
In addition to interfering with acetylcholine release, the treatment also interferes with the release of pain and inflammatory mediators including substance P and glutamine, which explains why it is used to treat migraine headaches.
